The North American Mission Board, Inc. (NAMB) has created this Privacy Statement
in order to demonstrate NAMB’s commitment to privacy on NAMB’s websites, including
www.MAPchurch.com. NAMB’s Privacy Statement sets forth NAMB’s information gathering,
use, and disclosure practices solely for personally identifiable information collected
by NAMB at NAMB’s websites. NAMB’s websites may contain links to other websites
that are not operated by NAMB. NAMB is in no any way responsible for the privacy
practices, the collection, use, or disclosure of information by such other websites,
or the content of such other websites.
NAMB encourages its users to be aware when they leave NAMB’s websites and to read
the privacy statements of each and every website that collects any personally identifiable
information.
As used in NAMB’s Privacy Statement, the phrase “personally identifiable information”
is personal information that identifies a specific natural person and means: (a)
a first and last name; (b) an address, including a street name, city or town, and
zip code (but excluding a post office box); (c) an e-mail address; (d) a telephone
number; (e) a Social Security number; and/or, (f) an account number or credit card
number. In NAMB’s Privacy Statement, the phrase “personally identifiable information”
is abbreviated as “PII”.
NAMB is the owner of all PII that is collected by NAMB on NAMB’s websites. NAMB
may collect PII from users, customers, and in responses to online surveys and group
discussions at several different points on NAMB’s websites. NAMB will not sell or
rent PII to other organizations in ways that are different from what is disclosed
in this Privacy Statement. NAMB may share aggregate demographic information that
does not contain PII.
NAMB’s websites may use IP addresses to help NAMB analyze trends, administer NAMB’s
websites, track user movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate
use. IP addresses do not contain PII. NAMB’s websites may use "cookies". A "cookie"
is a piece of data stored on a user's hard drive that contains information about
the user. For instance, by setting a cookie on NAMB’s websites, a user may not have
to log in a password more than once, thereby saving time while on NAMB’s websites.
If a user rejects the cookie, the user may still use NAMB’s websites, but may be
limited in some areas on some of NAMB’s websites. Cookies can also enable NAMB to
track and target the interests of users to enhance their experience on NAMB’s websites.
In order to receive certain updates or use certain features on NAMB’s websites,
a user may have to complete a registration form. During registration a user may
be required to provide PII, such as the user’s name and/or an e-mail address. PII
may be used to contact the user about NAMB, the goods and services available on
NAMB’s website, and to provide information about other topics and discussion groups.
If requested, it is optional for a user to provide demographic information (such
as income level and gender) and unique identifiers (such as a social security number),
which enable NAMB to provide a more personalized experience on NAMB’s websites.
Users may subscribe to certain of NAMB’s newsletters on certain of NAMB’s websites.
In that case, NAMB will request PII, such as the user’s name, mailing address, and/or
an e-mail address.
PII may be used to send such newsletters and may be used to contact the user about
NAMB, the goods and services available on NAMB’s websites, and to provide information
about other topics and discussion groups.
NAMB’s websites may include an online catalog for customers to order goods and services,
and contact forms for customers to request information and services. In such instances,
NAMB collects customer PII, such as a name, an e-mail address, a mailing address,
an account number and/or credit card number. PII may be used to contact customers
and send customers information about NAMB, the goods and services available on NAMB’s
websites, and to provide information about other topics and discussion groups. NAMB
will not sell or rent PII to other organizations in ways that are different from
what is disclosed in this Privacy Statement. PII may be disclosed as required or
permitted by law.
NAMB may conduct online surveys, which may request PII, such as a name, an e-mail
address, and/or a mailing address. PII may be used to contact users and send users
information about NAMB, the goods and services available on NAMB’s websites, and
to provide information about other topics and discussion groups. Information collected
by NAMB’s online surveys may be used to help NAMB understand the interests and concerns
of NAMB’s supporters and website users, and how they perceive NAMB and NAMB's mission.
NAMB will not sell or rent PII to other organizations in ways that are different
from what is disclosed in this Privacy Statement. PII may be disclosed as required
or permitted by law.
NAMB may provide opportunities for e-mail discussion groups. Information collected
by NAMB from such discussion groups may be used to contact users about NAMB, the
goods and services available on NAMB’s websites, and to provide information about
other topics and discussion groups.
NAMB may contract with third parties to provide services to NAMB, including services
relating to the internal operations of NAMB’s websites, the storage and retrieval
of information, including PII, and other services. PII, on-line survey information,
discussion group information, and aggregate demographic information may be maintained
on NAMB’s servers or on NAMB’s third party contractor’s servers.
NAMB may use shipping companies to ship orders and credit card processing companies
to process and bill customers for goods and services. Such companies should not
sell, rent, retain, share, store or use PII gathered by NAMB for any secondary purposes.
NAMB may affiliate with other organizations to provide goods and services. When
a user or customer signs up for or orders goods or services, NAMB may share PII
as necessary to provide such goods and services, and to provide information about
NAMB, the goods and services available on NAMB’s websites, and information about
other topics and discussion groups. Such affiliated organizations should not sell,
rent, retain, share, store or use PII gathered by NAMB, except for the purpose of
providing such goods and services.
If a user or customer decides to use NAMB’s referral service for informing a friend
about NAMB, they may be requested to provide the friend's name and e-mail address.
NAMB may send the friend information about NAMB, the goods and services available
on NAMB’s websites, and to provide information about other topics and discussion
groups, and NAMB may also invite them to visit NAMB’s websites. NAMB maintains such
information for the purpose of sending such e-mails and mailings. The friend may
contact NAMB’s Communications Team to request the removal of information concerning
them from NAMB’s database.
NAMB’s websites have security measures in place to reasonably protect against loss,
misuse, and alteration of information, including PII, that is under NAMB’s control.
This includes a firewall and 24-hour monitoring of website activities by NAMB’s
hosting service provider, as well as 128-bit SSL encryption (where allowed by law)
on transaction oriented operations between customers and NAMB via NAMB’s transaction
service provider.
NAMB uses SSL encryption to protect sensitive information online. NAMB also takes
reasonable steps to protect PII off-line. Access to PII is restricted in NAMB’s
offices. Access to PII is limited on a “need to know” basis to enable NAMB’s employees
and contractors to perform their specific job functions and responsibilities. NAMB’s
employees use password-protected screen-savers when they leave their workstation.
When they return, they must re-enter their password to re-gain access to PII. NAMB
also has periodic training of NAMB’s employees on NAMB’s security and privacy practices.
NAMB’s employees are periodically reminded about the importance that NAMB places
on security and privacy, and what they can do to ensure that PII is protected. Finally,
NAMB’s servers that maintain PII are kept in a secure environment.
NAMB cares about children. NAMB works to voluntarily comply with provisions of the
Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA) and its accompanying Federal
Trade Commission regulations, which establish United States Federal law that protects
the privacy of children using the Internet. NAMB’s websites are directed to adults
and are not directed to children. NAMB’s websites do not knowingly collect or maintain
personal information, as that phrase is defined in COPPA, from or about children
under 13 years of age.
NAMB’s websites are not intended to solicit, collect, or maintain information of
any kind from or about children less than 13 years of age. NAMB’s websites have
been designed to block knowing acceptance of information from or about children
under 13 years of age whenever age related information is requested.
It is possible that by fraud, deception, or misrepresentation by others, NAMB may
receive information from or about a child less than 13 years of age. If NAMB is
notified of such a situation, upon verification of the information, NAMB will immediately
seek to obtain verifiable parental consent or NAMB will otherwise delete personal
information pertaining to such child from NAMB’s database. Please notify NAMB of
its receipt of personal information from or pertaining to a child less than 13 years
of age by contacting NAMB’s Communications Team.
NAMB will use reasonable efforts to provide a way for NAMB’s website users and customers
to request that NAMB correct, update, or remove that respective user's or customer’s
PII in or from NAMB’s database. If a user's or a customer’s PII changes, or if a
user or customer no longer desires NAMB’s goods or services, such user or customer
may contact NAMB and request that NAMB correct, update, or remove that respective
user's or customer’s PII in or from NAMB’s database. This can usually be done at
the member information page or by contacting NAMB’s Communications Team. However,
in order to preserve the integrity of survey results provided by MAPchurch.com,
a snapshot of all data, that may include the minimal required PII, is historically
archived. PII included in historical snapshots cannot be updated or removed.
NAMB’s websites (except MAPchurch.com) give users and customers the following options
for requesting that NAMB correct, update, or remove PII previously provided to NAMB.
The user or customer can send NAMB a request by United States mail to the following
postal address:
Communications Team – E-mail Administration
The North American Mission Board
4200 North Point Parkway
Alpharetta, GA 30022-4176
The user or customer can call the following telephone number: (770) 410-6207.
Questions about NAMB’s Privacy Statement, NAMB’s privacy practices at MAPchurch.com,
or transactions with this website should be directed to NAMB's Center for Missional
Research team by calling (888) 730-5226.
If NAMB decides to change its Privacy Statement with respect to PII, NAMB will post
PII changes on NAMB’s websites so users and customers are aware of what PII NAMB
collects, how NAMB uses such PII, and under what circumstances NAMB may disclose
such PII. If at any time NAMB decides to use PII in a manner different from that
stated at the time such PII was collected, NAMB will use reasonable efforts to notify
users and customers for whom NAMB has a current e-mail addresses of such change
by way of an e-mail. Such users and customers will then have a choice as to whether
or not to authorize NAMB to use their PII in a manner different from that stated
at the time it was collected. If NAMB cannot contact a particular user or customer
concerning their respective PII, NAMB will use that PII in accordance with the Privacy
Statement that was in effect at the time such PII was collected.
NAMB’s websites provide users and customers the opportunity to opt-out of receiving
further mailings and e-mailings from NAMB at the point where NAMB requests information
about the user, customer, survey participant, or discussion group participant.
NAMB’s websites (except MAPchurch.com) also provide users, customers, survey participants,
and discussion group participants with the following options for removing their
PII from NAMB’s database and for notifying NAMB that they do not want to receive
future communications or services from NAMB’s website.
The user or customer can send NAMB mail to the following postal address:
